  • GOLD | tisane blend

    notes — piquant | warm | coating

This tisane blend is certified organic.

GOLD is a spice-forward tisane blend centered on tumeric, with added ginger, licorice, and lemongrass. Expect a deep golden liquor, coating viscosity, and a pleasant bite with a warm, lingering finish.

    Format

GOLDis a tisane blend of dried turmeric, ginger, and licorice roots with a smaller measure of lemongrass. Each component is sourced from farming cooperatives practicing clean agriculture that produce healthy, richly flavored crop (M.O. for all Hugo imports). Made in-house by our resident tea and tisane blender, the recipe took nearly a year to perfect; the result, we're proud to share with you, is finally up to our exacting standards.

Designed as a cold-weather tonic with smoothly piquant character, GOLD is blended at a precise ratio that centers on our first-ever turmeric. On the cupping table we settled on a slightly larger cut of root that extracts more steadily through a steep, and gives plentifully of its volatile compounds. To this we add freshly dried, fine-cut ginger root and body-giving licorice root, with lemongrass in a gently herbaceous supporting role. Like our chai, GOLD is not excessively bright or peppery; the aim through many early iterations was to produce a deeply spiced tisane blend with enough viscosity (via licorice) to tame the sharp edges and achieve a soft, warming finish that lingers pleasantly. We expect you'll find just that in the cup.

Our newest non-tea blend produces a heady liquorwith coating mouthfeel and exhilarating tasting notes. Experiment freely with our recommended steeping parameters; GOLD rewards the adventurous with layered nuance, and is easily adjusted to suit any palate.
