Osamu, "Sam", moved from the city to farm in the Uji region of Japan. He was envious of the relaxing and meaningful life led by the farmers of the countryside. However, relaxing doesn't seem to be much of what Sam is doing on his over 2.5 hectares of tea fields. Sam has grown his own reputation in the tea-growing community by building his own tea factory, cultivating previously abandoned lands and focusing on black tea (unusual for the region).
As the children of tea farmers leave the difficult life of farming for the city, it is people like Sam who are the ones to save the long tradition of tea farming in Japan.
